In this Post I am going to share a simple but very effective way to reduce timeout of a modem
increasing the Modem Timeout If your modem it is timing out during file transfers or loading Web Pages, you might try increasing the timeout period.

 To change the Time Out::
1.Open RegEdit
2.Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\ Services\ Class\ Modem\ XXXX\
Settings Where XXXX is the number of your modem
3. In the right panel and double click on Inactivity Timeout
4.The number of minutes for a timeout should be entered between the brackets.
5.For example, a setting could have S19=<10> to set it to 10 minutes.

In this post, we will discuss the solutions to tackle two situations:

• prevent your USB drive from getting infected.
• protect your system from USB drive virus attack

1. Securing the USB Flash Drive

There are plenty of solution to safeguard the USB drive, but most of them are computer specific. The method described here should work across different Windows computers.
The following method uses the security permission of NTFS file format to secure your USB drive.
Note: The default filesystem for most USB drive is Fat32, which is good if you are using the it on different platforms such as Linux, Mac OS and Windows. If you are using it primarily on Windows, you can safely convert the file system to NTFS.
Note: You should not convert the USB drive to NTFS if it is less than 2GB in size as the performance of the USB drive may get affected.
To convert a USB drive to NTFS file system, follow the steps below:
1. Insert the USB drive and then go to Device Manager.
2. Under Disk Drives, right click the USB drive name and select “Properties”.


3. Go to Policies tab and select “Better performance” under Removal policy.

4. Now go to Computer, right click the USB drive and select Format.

5. Make sure NTFS is selected from the File System drop down menu.

6. Click “Start” to format the USB using NTFS file system.
Now that we have formatted our USB drive using NTFS file system, the next step is to configure the security permissions such that the root of the USB drive remains read-only.
1. Go to Computer, right click the USB drive and select Properties.

2. Go to the Security tab and make sure “Everyone” has read-only rights on the root folder.

3. Lastly, create a folder called “Write” and give it permissions for read/write. Now whenever you insert your USB drive, any virus on the PC won’t be able to write to the root of the USB drive. For you, you can save your data to the “Write” folder.

2. Keep Windows Safe from USB Drive Virus Attacks

To effectively prevent the virus in the USB drive from attacking the computer, the best way is to disable the “autorun” feature so virus don’t get activated in the first place. (The virus usually hide itself in the “autorun.inf” file in the USB drive so that it is activated the moment you inserted your USB drive.)

• Right click on it and select open.A new open with window will open and select Notepad and open it.
• Under "127.0.0.1 localhost" Add 127.0.0.2 www.site-name-you-want-to-block.com , and that site will no longer be accessable.

For every site after that you want to add, just add "1" to the last Number in the internal ip(127.0.0.2) and then the add like before.

• Save As the document as ANYTHING.bat.  Just add .bat after file name like ANYTHING.bat You can assign any name instead of ANYTHING as per your choice.

• Double click on XYZ.bat file saved in above step.
• This will generate a folder named Locker just besides the XYZ.bat file.

• Place all the content in this Locker folder which you want to hide from other computer users.
• After placing all the content which you want to hide, just double click on XYZ.bat file.
• This will prompt for your permission to lock this folder. If you want to lock that folder, type Y otherwise type N and hit Enter.

• Locker folder will disappear.
• Whenever you want to see the content hidden in locker folder, just double click on XYZ.bat file.This will prompt you to enter password assigned in earlier steps.

• Just put the password and hit Enter.
• Locker folder will appear again. Open Locker folder to see the content contained in it. You can add more content which you want to hide.
• Try to keep this XYZ.bat file created above at a place which is not easily accessible to other users. You can place this .bat file in Windows system folders contained in C drive. because most of computer user don’t like to explore C drive as it contains windows system files.
• Also try to assign a name to .bat file similar to windows system files. so this file will be ignored by a strange user like other windows system files.
• So Hide your all valuable data in a password protected folder on your computer without any software on all versions of Windows computers. Don’t forget to share this simple trick with your friends or colleagues.
